Sudan, Oman Shelve Normalization Plan: Report
MUSCAT (Dispatches) – Sudan and Oman have postponed normalizing ties with the Zionist regime until after the U.S. elections, Rai Al-Youm reported citing an Israeli newspaper.
Reporting Israeli newspaper Maariv, Rai Al-Youm disclosed that the two Arab countries would not offer their "precious gifts” to U.S. President Donald Trump and Zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the U.S. elections.
According to Maariv, United Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador to Washington Yousef Al-Otaiba confirmed that Sudan and Oman are not rushing towards diplomatic ties with the occupying regime.
This came despite repeated optimistic remarks by Zionist officials about the possible normalization deals that could be reached, according to Al-Otaiba.
Meanwhile, Maariv’s reporter Gideon Kotz claimed that the speech of Oman’s foreign minister at the United Nations General Assembly, through which he reiterated the Palestinian right to have an independent state with East al-Quds as its capital, toned down the regime’s enthusiasm regarding normalization.
Sudan has been technically at war with the Zionist regime for decades.
Sudan’s Islamic governmental authority has announced its opposition to Khartoum normalizing ties with the Zionist regime.
Local media reported that an Islamic Fatwa – a legal opinion based on Islamic law – was issued amid imminent reports that the two sides are due to sign agreements to establish normal relations, according to official sources.
Last month, the Sudanese foreign minister-designate, Omar Qamar Al-Din, said that the U.S. administration had promised to study the possibility of removing Sudan from the American so-called "states sponsoring terrorism” list, if Khartoum established ties with the occupying regime.
"U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has visited the Sudanese capital of Khartoum and put forward two files, the first is normalization between Sudan and Israel, and the second is to remove Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism,” he told local Tayyar.
Earlier this month, the occupying regime of Israel signed U.S.-brokered deals to normalize ties with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain and has been enticing other Arab states to follow suit.
Palestinians have decried the normalization agreements as a betrayal of their struggle against the decades-long Zionist occupation of their lands.
