Hezbollah Slams Macron’s Interventionist Remarks
BEIRUT (Dispatches) – Hezbollah has slammed French President Emmanuel Macron following his meddlesome remarks, stressing that it will continue to operate as a resistance movement.
In its main editorial broadcast, Hezbollah-run news channel Al-Manar TV condemned the French president and stated that the movement "is and will remain an army facing Israel and will keep supporting Syria and its people against extremists.”
The channel also said that the resistance movement and other Shia factions within Lebanon were not responsible for prime minister-designate Mustapha Adib’s resignation and his failure to form a government, calling Macron’s comments and ultimatum against Lebanese leaders "unjustified and unacceptable”.
The condemnation of Macron by Hezbollah came after the French president claimed "Hezbollah can’t be at the same time an army at war with Israel,” among other baseless remarks.
Lebanon’s Amal movement also expressed surprise on Tuesday over accusations by French President Emmanuel Macron that the Shia party triggered the collapse of talks to form a new government.
Prime minister-designate Mustapha Adib quit on Saturday after failing to line up a non-partisan cabinet, dealing a blow to a French plan aimed at rallying Lebanese leaders to tackle the country’s financial meltdown.
"The movement… is surprised by comments he made that included accusations and holding (the Amal Movement and Hezbollah) especially responsible,” for stalling the process, Amal said in its statement.
Meanwhile, Beirut strongly reacted to the Zionist regime’s envoy’s interventionist remarks against Hezbollah at a UN Human Rights Council session, describing the resistance movement as an "inseparable part” of Lebanon and slamming the regime’s history of rights violations in Lebanon and other Arab states.
The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants issued a statement on Monday in condemnation of the comments by Merav Marks, the legal counselor to the Zionist regime’s mission to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, who had attacked the Hezbollah resistance movement for its role in Lebanon during a general debate at the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
The Zionist envoy accused the UN Human Rights Council of not dealing with what she called Hezbollah’s efforts to hamper the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and attempts to manipulate the Lebanese government.
In its statement, the ministry said Lebanon’s Permanent Mission to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva exercised its "right to respond to the Israeli enemy’s envoy, as has been the case whenever there is an attack on Lebanon and its right to resistance.”
