Kuwait Calls for End to Occupation of Palestine
KUWAIT CITY (Dispatches) – The Kuwaiti prime minister has reaffirmed his country’s principled and firm position in supporting the choices of the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights.
"The Palestinian cause still occupies a central historical and pivotal position in Arab and Islamic worlds,” Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah told the 75th session of the UN General Assembly via video link.
Al-Sabah stressed the importance of continuing efforts to relaunch negotiations to reach a just and comprehensive deal.
He called for an end to the Zionist regime’s occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East al-Quds as its capital.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas also criticized on Friday the Zionist regime’s occupation supported by "the present U.S. administration,” calling for a just solution to the question of Palestine.
"We have accepted the rule of international law and UN resolutions,” and "even though these resolutions only acknowledged as Palestinian the territories occupied in 1967,” said Abbas, addressing the ongoing general debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"Yet, the Israeli occupying power, with the support of the present U.S. administration, wants to substitute this basis for a just solution with the U.S. ‘deal of the century’ and the planned annexation of over 33 percent of the land of the State of Palestine, in addition to the annexation of occupied East al-Quds,” he said.
Abbas said Palestine rejected this deal, "as it contravenes international law and UN resolutions, which recognized, inter alia, the existence of the State of Palestine in 2012 as part of the international order.”
