Official: 1,200MW Added to Thermal Power Plants’ Capacity
TEHRAN (Dispatches) –The Director of Planning at Thermal Power Plants Holding Company Hamidreza Azimi said on Wednesday that 1,200-megawatt electricity has been added to the current generation capacity of thermal power plants in the country.
Azimi said that 1,239-megawatt electricity has been added to the production capacity of thermal power plants.
Some 580 thermal electricity generation units have so far been constructed in 129 power plants of the country, he said, adding, "With the inauguration of these projects, the number of thermal power plants, running under the private sector and large industries, have hit 380 while production capacity of these thermal power plants has hit 46,385 megawatts.”
Accordingly, about 68 percent of total electricity generation capacity of thermal power plants is owned by the private sector, he said, adding, "During the tenure of the current administration dubbed ‘Hope and Prudence’, 13,135-megawatt electricity has been added to the production capacity of thermal power plants in the country, showing a considerable hike.”
Azimi pointed out that 1,239-megawatt electricity has been added to the generation capacity of the thermal power plants in the current year (started March 21, 2020) named after ‘Surge in Production’.
According to the scheduled program envisioned for the next year, 645-megawatt electricity has been added to the generation capacity of thermal power plants in the nationwide, he added.
Iran to Provide Afghanistan With Electricity
On Wednesday, at the opening ceremony of "Water, Electricity and Renewable Energy Exhibition” in Afghanistan, Tehran’s Ambassador to Kabul Bahador Aminian said Iranian Energy Ministry has adopted a plan to meet Afghanistan’s need to electricity.
"The two countries have many opportunities to promote ties in different fields, so if Afghanistan intends to develop these ties, Iran would be the best option,” Aminian said.
Pointing to the importance of Afghanistan’s market for the Iranian private sector, he added, "Statistics indicate that Afghanistan is importing about $3 million annually, so if the country provides a broader market for Iranian goods, Iranian producers are willing to cooperate with Afghan partners.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran’s Ambassador to Abuja Mohammad Ali Bak met and held talks with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Timipre Marlin Sylva on the expansion of energy cooperation.
During the meeting which took place in the Nigerian capital of Abuja, the Iranian ambassador and Nigerian minister discussed topics of mutual interest.
Emphasizing the many commonalities between Iran and Nigeria in the field of energy, including the membership of the two countries in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Assembly of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), the two sides stressed the need to further expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.
