Iran Creates 2.6mnb Refinery Capacity by Developing Gas Supply
TEHRAN (Dispatches) – The Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh on Monday said due to the development of South Pars and the implementation of gas supply projects in the last seven years, an equivalent to 2.6 million barrels of refining capacity fuel has been distributed and consumed in the country.”
Speaking at the ceremony of commissioning gas supply projects in Kermanshah province, western Iran, Zangeneh said, "Gas extraction from the South Pars joint field with 420 million cubic meters daily increase from 280 million cubic meters in 2013 has reached the current figure of 700 mcm, adding gas production from this field has increased 2.5 times.”
"This means creating 2.6 million barrels of refining capacity. If we wanted to build a refinery, we would have to build 10 refineries with 260,000 barrels capacity to be able to supply the country with the amount of fuel,” he said.
Petrochemical Output Up 6%
National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Seyed Jalal, NPC’s director of production control, said production of petrochemicals in the first five months of the current calendar year, which began on March 20, rose by 6% compared to the same period last year in Iran.
Mirhashemi said production stood at 25 million tons during the period, adding petrochemical plants operated with a good capacity during the 5 months.
He added: "Petrochemical industry as one of the parent industries is one of the most important pillars of development and the driving force of various sectors of the economy and the approach of the National Petrochemical Company is to complete the production chain, diversify products, feed domestic industries and increase the value of the product portfolio.”
The official said that this year plans were under way to maximize productivity of the sector.
