TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Iranian authorities have arrested five people for spying for the occupying regime of Israel, Britain and Germany, convicting and handing down prison sentences on at least two of them, the Judiciary said on Tuesday.
"In recent months, five Iranians who were spying for foreign intelligence services have been arrested,” Judiciary spokesman Gholamhussein Esmaili said in a virtual news conference.
Shahram Shirkhani spied for British intelligence services and tried to recruit some Iranian officials for Britain’s MI6 agency, Esmali said.
Shirkhani had passed on classified information about Iran’s Central Bank and Defense Ministry contracts, he said. He has been convicted and received a prison sentence.
Masoud Mosaheb, who was secretary-general of the Iran-Austria friendship association, also has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for spying for the Zionist regime’s Mossad and the German intelligence services, the spokesman said.
He gave no details on the other three detainees.
Esmaili recently said that five employees of the foreign ministry, energy industries and companies had been detained.  
Iran last month executed a former translator convicted of spying on its forces for the U.S. and the occpying egime of Israel, including helping to locate a top Iranian general, who was assassinated later in a U.S. drone strike.
Mahmoud Mousavi Majd had spied "on various security fields, especially the armed forces and the Quds Force and the whereabouts and movements of martyr General Qasem Soleimani,” Esmaili told a news conference.
Majd had been found guilty of receiving large sums of money from both the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and Mossad, Esmaili said.
Majd had migrated to Syria in the 1970s with his family and worked as an English and Arabic language translator at a company, Mizan news agency said.
