Leader’s Twitter Account in Hindi Opened

TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has opened a Twitter account in Hindi. He has also opened accounts in other languages like Persian, Arabic, Urdu, French, Spanish, Russian and English. After the opening of the account, he posted two tweets in Hindi.
Iran has long standing historic ties with India and the cooperation between the two countries has recently been marked by projects such as development of Chabahar port and Chabahar-Zahedan rail link despite U.S. sanctions on business with Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei’s twitter accounts have been in the news in the past. In February this year, a group of Republican senators in the U.S. urged Twitter to suspend Ayatollah Khamenei and Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif’s accounts, apparently worried by the influence of their message.
Iran is India’s third oil supplier, with Indian companies importing 12.5 million tonnes of crude from the Islamic Republic in the period running from April 2017 to October 2018.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Iran in May 2016, the first by an Indian person in that capacity in 15 years.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani also paid a visit to India in February 2018 at the official invitation of Modi.
During his visit to India, Rouhani was accompanied by a political and economic delegation, including Foreign Minister Zarif and a number of representatives from the Iranian private sector.
