Iran Produces Over 90,000 Tons of Copper Cathode in 4 Months
TEHRAN (Dispatches) - Iran had an output of more than 91,000 tons of copper cathode in the first four months of the current year (March 20 to July 21), indicating 1% growth compared with the corresponding period last year.
The statistical tables show that Meydouk and Sarcheshmeh copper plants produced 91,080 tons of copper cathode from March 20 to July 21, 2020.
These plants produced a total of 22,072 tons of copper cathode in the fourth month of the current year (June 21- July 21).
The statistics also indicate that 121,202 tons of copper anode were produced in the country from March 20 to July 21, 2020, showing a 3% rise in comparison with the same period last year.
The copper concentrate production stood at 403,994 tons of was produced in the same period showing a one percent growth as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.
It was announced in late July that Iran had discovered new copper reserves of nearly 528 million metric tons to rank 7th among the largest holders of such reserves in the world.
Earlier, Managing Director of National Iranian Copper Industries Co (NICICO) Ardeshir Sa’ad Mohammadi said that more reserves could be found in the near future enabling Iran to push behind Indonesia in terms of copper reserves’ size.
Currently, Iran holds 4.2% of the global reserves, Sa’ad Mohammadi said, adding that new copper findings had been reported in the Southeast and Northwest of country.
This, while Iran had the 9th largest reserves of copper in 2011 totaling around 32.5 million tons.
Iran has already earned billions of dollars from exports of different metals despite a series of illegal US sanctions targeting the industry since May 2019.
