From National Catastrophe to Gobal Catastrophe

By:Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

The current president of the United States has been labeled as a "national catastrophe” by many Americans. He has been considered as one of the most hateful presidents in US history.
For us in the Islamic Republic of Iran, we see little difference between Donald Trump and his predecessors. He is the true and real face of the dominant American culture. The way he talks trash, the way he walks with an air of arrogance, the way he unethically gestures, the way of his theatrical tweets, and the way he threatens all non-whites, is all loved by the Anglo-Saxon white supremacists in the US who claim to be the true Americans – although they are not indigenous to any part of the American continent.
The recent brutal murder of George Floyd, an Afro-American man by the white police officers in Minneapolis and the furious aftermath of the incidents, where almost tens of thousands of people are daily pouring into the streets to condemn the killing and in many cases clashing with the police and US National Guard, have forced the US administration to step back from its initial brutal behviour.
It seems that the American society is now sampling the same brutalities which the US administration had subjected various parts of the world for the past seven decades.
The inhuman and immoral polices of the US have strangled almost every country in the world. In other words, the US is the root cause of every problem around the globe.
Apart from using weapons of mass destruction (Hiroshima and Nagasaki), chemical warfare (Vietnam), support for state and non-state terrorists (the illegal Zionist entity, Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Daesh), coups which have toppled every legitimate and freely elected government (Latin America, North Africa and especially Iran in 1953), support and spread of narcotics, the US is busy with the destruction of the delicate ecology of Planet Earth.
The World Environment Day which has been marked on June 5 every year is a constant reminder of the US administration’s abuse of nature, along with violation of human rights.
Europe had laid out a vision of a green future with a proposed recovery package worth more than $800 billion to gradually replace fossil fuels with other forms of non-pollutant energies that included educating the people to make their dwellings energy-efficient.
On the other hand, in the US where the White House is steadily slashing environmental protections, the Republicans are using the ‘Green New Deal’, passed by the Congress in 2008, as a political cudgel against their opponents.
Trump has frequently resorted to ending or limiting US involvement in international organizations under his "America First” approach. Earlier in his presidency, he withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord and the Iran nuclear agreement.
At the same time, the Republicans are arguing that climate friendly policies will kill jobs and crush an already ailing American economy.
In view of these facts, not only Donald Trump, but the whole US administrative system, already a "national catastrophe” at home, ought to be called "global catastrophe”.
