Envoy: China Opposes Unlawful Sanctions Against Iran

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – China Ambassador to Iran Chang Hua said on Tuesday that China has so far declared support for Iran’s nuclear deal, opposing the unlawful sanctions imposed on Iran.
Speaking in a meeting to review Iran-China economic relations, Hua referred to the meeting between Iranian and Chinese presidents meeting in the United Nations, saying that strategic ties between Iran and China have entered a new chapter and the political trust has increased between two countries.
He described Iran deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an important multilateral agreement which has been signed through negotiation.
Preserving the JCPOA means saving multilateralism and international system based on international regulations, he reiterated.
Hua urged JCPOA parties to preserve the security of the Persian Gulf.
He noted that there are ethnic, religious and geopolitical differences between the Middle East nations and the transregional powers creating tension by the U.S. bullying over the international affairs.
Chang said that his country persuades the international community to fully support Iran’s interests, and added, "We certainly ask the private sector Chinese companies to invest in Iran and we plan to send an investment delegation to Iran in the near future.”
Elsewhere, he said that the volume of trade ties between Tehran and Beijing stood at $35bn in 2018, adding that the figure has amounted $20bn in the first ten months of 2019.
And also, Pakistan’s former permanent representative at the United Nations in Geneva Zamir Akram said Iran’s decision of suspending some parts of the JCPOA commitments as "justified”, and added that Iran only wants lifting of sanctions as per the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and they are not responsible for the U.S. violation of the international agreement.
"If an agreement is not honored by other parties then Iran is under no obligation to honor it,” he noted.
The official said that it is fully justified on part of Iran to say that they will fully restore the agreement if the sanctions are lifted as per the UN Resolution to that effect in 2015.
"It is a very reasonable demand by Iran that the parties to JCPOA respect their commitments,” said the former ambassador.
