TOKYO (Dispatches) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani may visit Japan on Dec. 19 for talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Jiji News reported on Tuesday.
Abe said on Monday that Tokyo is in discussions about the visit in an attempt to try to resolve Iran’s nuclear impasse with the United States. It would be the first visit to Japan by an Iranian president since October 2000. Abe laid the groundwork for the visit during his trip to Iran in June, when he became the first Japanese prime minister to travel to the country since 1978.
