Filmmaker Asgarpour Elected President of Fajr Int’l Festival

TEHRAN (IFILM) -- Iranian filmmaker Mohammad-Mehdi Asgarpour has been selected to serve as the new president of the 38th edition of Fajr International Film Festival.
Asgarpour was assigned the title by Cinema Organization of Iran (COI) director Hossein Entezami.
It is not to be the first time that Asgarpour will serve as the director as he has already presided over the 20th and 21st editions of Fajr Festival in 2002 and 2003.
Asgarpour has been introduced as the replacement for ‘Castle of Dreams’ director Reza Mirkarimi who has held the position since 2016.
Mirkarimi has been appointed as a member of the policymaking council of the festival.
Besides Mirkarimi, cineastes Alireza Shojanouri and Nader Talebzadeh as well as Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi will serve the council.
Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.
The upcoming edition of Fajr International Film Festival is scheduled to be held in Tehran in April 2020.
