Heavy Rains Cause Flash Floods in NW Turkey

ANKARA (Xinhua) – Heavy rains have hit northwestern Turkey, blocking roads in Artvin province of the Black Sea region, according to local media.
Streams overflowed in the Borcka district of Artvin, some village and neighborhood roads were closed due to landslides, it reported.
The rains also flooded the lower floors of some buildings.
"There are partial flash floods, but they are containable at the moment as the rain began to slow," Artvin Governor Yilmaz Doruk told official Anadolu Agency, adding that no casualties have been reported yet.
The roads that were briefly closed have been reopened after the measures were taken, Borcka District Mayor Ercan Orhan told reporters.
A total of 13 people were previously trapped in their houses due to the overflow of the streams, but they were rescued by Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) teams, Orhan said.
