Egypt's Court Sentences 14 Over Joining Daesh

CAIRO (Dispatches) – An Egyptian court sentenced on Monday 14 people to imprisonment terms ranging from three to 25 years over joining the Daesh terrorist group in Syria and Iraq, official news agency MENA reported.
The Giza Criminal Court has sentenced 11 people to life sentence, which is 25 years in jail in Egypt. Another three received three to 15 years in jail.
The defendants were accused of joining the Daesh in Syria and Iraq, and receiving training to carry out offensive operation inside Egypt, according to the prosecution.
Investigations proved that the defendants have planned from 2016 to 2018 for spreading public disorder, regime change by force, breaking into some governmental institutions, and attacking police and army headquarters.
The defendants were also charged with establishing a terrorist group and weapons possession.
Egypt has been experiencing anti-security attacks since former president Mohamed Morsi was ousted in 2013 and his Muslim Brotherhood group was banned in 2014.
Most of the attacks, that killed hundreds of security men, have been claimed by a Daesh branch in the Sinai Peninsula.
