Leader Appoints New Commander of Basij

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has appointed Brigadier General Gholam Reza Soleimani as the new commander of Iran’s Basij (mobilization) Force, a replacement for Brigadier General Gholam Hossein Gheibparvar.
In a decree on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, highlighted Brigadier General Soleimani’s valuable experiences in uniform, calling on him to work on plans to encourage the creativity of Basij forces, particularly the young forces, in order to promote and safeguard the revolutionary values.
Ayatollah Khamenei also praised Soleimani’s predecessor, Brigadier General Gheibparvar, for his precious efforts and revolutionary stances during his tenure.
Basij is a voluntary force established in 1979 on late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini's order.
The force consists of often young Iranians, who have volunteered, with a strong sense of fidelity to both the Islamic system and religious beliefs.
In a separate decree on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
The appointments come as the U.S. does not stop military threats against Iran.
Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari warned enemies to stay away from the country's borders, saying that any stupid act will receive a crushing response.
"Any stupid act of aggression" by the enemies will be responded firmly by the Iranian armed forces, General Heidari said.
The Iranian Army is ready to confront any act of aggression on its land, sea or air, using its home-made defense equipment and technologies, he added.
General Heidari reiterated Iran’s stance against any war, but saying that the Armed Forces are ready to defend the Islamic Republic's territories and "will not allow any violation against the country's borders”.
Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Headquarters Major General Gholam Ali Rashid also advised the U.S. to take lesson from its failed military adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, warning that Iran would give a strong and crushing response to any aggression.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran's Armed Forces will undoubtedly give a strong response to any aggressive move by enemies against the Islamic Iran's islands and sea, ground and air borders and will make them regret their deeds," General Rashid said.
He also cautioned that in case of any war between the US and Iran, no one could control its duration, magnitude, vastness, and said, "The U.S. should have taken a lesson from its mistakes of Iraq and Afghanistan invasions which imposed $7,000bln of expenses (on the US) and 70,000 casualties on these countries, and avoid making an irreversible mistake in its calculations when making decisions."
He also underscored the Iranian military commanders' prudence and intelligence superiority to prevent a war, meantime, warning that the country's Armed Forces were more than ever ready to inflict heavy expenses on the aggressors and make rapid and timely decisions.
