UN Chief Warns Against Escalation in Persian Gulf
UNITED NATIONS (Dispatches) – UN chief Antonio Guterres on Sunday warned against "any form of escalation” in the Persian Gulf after U.S. violations of Iran’s airspace forced the country to shoot down an American RQ-4 Global Hawk.
"The world cannot afford a major confrontation in the Persian Gulf. Everybody must keep nerves of steel. It’s absolutely essential to avoid any form of escalation,” he said in brief remarks on the sidelines of an event in Portugal, without referring to any country by name.
