Kenyan Ambassador Summoned Over Jailed Iranians

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Iran on Sunday summoned Kenya's ambassador to Tehran to protest the Kenyan supreme court’s decision to keep two Iranian nationals in jail over terror charges.
Foreign Ministry summoned Ambassador Rukia Ahmed Subow on Saturday after the court retracted an earlier ruling to release Iranian nations, Ahmad Abolfathi and Seyyed Mansour Mousavi.
Tehran expressed its "dissatisfaction" with the "unfair" ruling, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Sunday, noting that the Kenyan envoy was recalled for consultations.
The Kenyan ambassador said she would inform Kenya's government about the Islamic Republic’s protest and dissatisfaction, the spokesman said.
Kenya's supreme court on Friday overturned a court of appeals decision to acquit the two Iranians who have been sentenced to 15 years on terrorism charges which the Islamic Republic has vehemently rejected.
Abolfathi and Mousavi were arrested in June 2012 in Nairobi following a short visit to the coastal town of Mombasa. In May 2013, a court sentenced the two Iranian nationals to life in prison over allegations of plotting attacks against Western interests in Kenya.
The two Iranians have since served five years and will now be taken to Kamiti Maximum Prison to serve the remaining years of their sentence.
