Top Cleric Urges Boost to Iran’s Military Power
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Senior Iranian cleric Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi has called for a constant development of Iran’s defense power to deter enemies from taking military action against the country.
In a meeting with Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hussein Baqeri in the city of Qom, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi said the country’s defense and military preparedness must increase continuously and its defense equipment be updated so that the adversaries would not dare attack the Islamic Republic.
"We are not after attacking any country, and are not belligerent and expansionist either, but we need such military equipment to protect and defend ourselves,” he said.
In comments in November 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei urged the Iranian Armed Forces to boost their military capabilities and preparedness in such a way that the enemies would not ever dare think of threaten the country.
