General Baqeri in Baku:
Iran, Azerbaijan Sign Military Cooperation Document
BAKU (Dispatches) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Muhammad Hussein Baqeri met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev here Wednesday and discussed ways of boosting military and defense cooperation.
Baqeri arrived in the Azerbaijani capital at the head of a high-ranking delegation to sign a memorandum of understand for military cooperation.
Ties between the two neighbors, which have very close historical and cultural bonds, have improved in recent years. President Aliyev has paid several visits to Tehran over the past few years.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday his country is working to hold another three-way summit with Iran and Azerbaijan.
"Now it is our turn to host a trilateral summit. We are in preparations for such a summit. I can assure you that it will take place," Lavrov told a news conference in Moscow.
The last trilateral summit was held in Tehran on November 1, 2017, with the presidents of the three countries focusing on energy cooperation and issues related to the Caspian Sea.
