Georgian Envoy Summoned for Second Time

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Georgian Ambassador to Tehran Ioseb Chakhvashvili for the second time over reports of the Eurasian country’s mistreatment of Iranian citizens.
A senior official at the Iranian Foreign Ministry voiced Tehran’s strong objection to "the improper behavior” of Georgian security authorities toward some Iranian nationals.
The Georgian envoy regretted the incident and pledged to travel to Tbilisi and pursue the matter in person.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Monday advised Iranians to avoid unnecessary trips to Georgia until further notice.
His remarks came after reports that several Iranian women had their Islamic headscarves removed during security checks for a flight from Tbilisi to Iran’s central city of Isfahan.
Earlier this month, the Iranian embassy in Georgia confirmed reports that dozens of Iranians had been deported or banned from entering the small Caucasian country.
The Iranian embassy has said it is pursuing the matter with Georgian authorities and asking for clarification on any changes to the country’s immigration laws and pushing them for explanation about their mistreatment of Iranians.
