FM Zarif: U.S. Waging Psychological War on Iran

TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- America is waging a psychological war against Iran and its business partners, Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday, according to the Tasnim news agency.
"America’s focus is on a psychological war against Iran and its business partners,” Zarif said.
President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May and is reimposing sanctions on Tehran. Other parties to the accord are trying to find ways to save the agreement.
Trump’s decision to withdraw from the accord has hurt the United States, Zarif said. "From the time that Trump announced the withdrawal from the nuclear deal, America has not been able to reach its goals,” he said.
The Americans, he said, are trying to tell Iran's partners that if they do not want to go to the U.S., why they are doing business with the Iranians.
Iran has lodged a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over Washington's move to reimpose sanctions against Tehran.
The Iranian foreign minister said the "illegal" U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal violated not only the agreement but also the Treaty of Amity and Economic Relations signed by the two countries in 1955.
He said even close U.S. allies and the countries that are not in good terms with Tehran, such as Canada, have stood against Washington regarding the agreement.
The top diplomat reiterated that Iran does not trust the U.S. and relies on its own people for security and progress.
Iran's difference with other regional countries is that they are seeking security through buying arms or acquiring nuclear weapons, Zarif said.
Unlike them, "the Islamic Republic sees itself relying on its people for security and progress," he added.
