Turkey Ready to Conduct Trade With Partners in National Currencies: Erdogan
ANKARA (Dispatches) - Ankara's ready to refuse dollars and euros in the country's trade with its partners, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Turkish media reported.
"We are preparing to carry on trade in national currencies with China, Russia, Iran, Ukraine, which account for the largest volume of bilateral trade.
If European countries want to get free from the dollar pressure, we are ready to create a similar system with them," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
In a tweet on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the U.S. president’s jubilation after inflicting economic sanctions on Turkey. Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Qasemi underlined that Iran supports Turkey in the face of U.S. sanctions on Ankara.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev weighed plans for trade exchanges between the two countries using their own currencies, namely rial and tenge.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the 5th Caspian summit in the Kazakh city of Aktau on Sunday, Rouhani and Nazarbayev discussed a range of issues, from the efforts for peace in Syria to using the two countries’ currencies in bilateral trade.
He further highlighted the opportunities for joint investment by Iran and Kazakhstan and export of reciprocal services, saying the two countries could complement each other in the transportation industry.
"Kazakhstan can be connected to southern (international) waters through Iran and Iran can also reach China via Kazakhstan,” he said.
