Iran Greco-Roman Wrestlers Win Asian Junior Championships

TEHRAN (Press TV) -The national Iranian junior Greco-Roman wrestling team has featured remarkable displays of grappling skills at the Asian Junior Championships in India, and been crowned as the champion of the continental sports event.
The young Iranian sportsmen notched 225 points to stand atop the podium by a wide margin in the team division of the tournament in the Indian capital city of New Delhi. They received six gold, three silver and one bronze medals.
They were followed by representatives from Kazakhstan, who gained 147 points to claim the second spot.
Wrestlers from Kyrgyzstan and India sat in the third and fourth places with 135 and 129 points respectively.
Pouya Naserpour thumped Vijay Vijay of India 8-0, and grabbed the gold medal in the 55-kilogram class.
In the 60-kilogram weight class, Alireza Nejati failed to overcome Galym Kabdunassarov from Kazakhstan and claimed a silver medal.
Bahram Maroufkhani Imcheh hooked Iran’s second gold medal by prevailing over his Uzbek opponent Kamol Kuziev 7-3 in the 63-kilogram final bout.
Iranian junior wrestler Sajjad Ali Imantalab-Foumani also bagged a bronze medal in the 67-kilogram category.
Moreover, Amin Yavar Kaviyaninejad snatched a gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran after shutting out Kyrgyz wrestler Beksultan Nazarbaev in the final competition of the 72-kilogram weight division.
Shayan Hossein Afifi lost to Indian rival Sajan Sajan 0-3 in the last contest of the 77-kilogram weight category, and got the silver medal.
Iran’s Hosein Jahanbakhsh Forouzandeh Ghojehbeiglou also overpowered Azat Salidinov from Kyrgyzstan 5-0 and pocketed the gold medal.
Mohammadhadi Abdollah Saravi claimed the gold medal in the 87-kilogram class after defeating Maimaiti Kaisaier from China 9-0.
Vahid Dadkhah Ghasemabadi bagged the silver medal in the 97-kilogram category.
Amin Mohammadzaman Mirzazadeh won the 130-kilogram gold medal after defeating Indian rival Aryan Panwar 2-1.
The Asian Junior Championships kicked off on July 17, and will run through July 22, 2018.
