Iran Wrestlers Rank 2nd in World Military Championship


TEHRAN (Press TV) - The national Iranian freestyle wrestling team has finished as the overall vice champion of the 33rd edition of the World Military Wrestling Championship in Russia.
The Russian freestyle wrestling team was named the top-ranked squad, having gained 225 points.
The Iranians claimed the second place with 163 points. Kazakh freestyle wrestlers finished third in the overall medal table, having accumulated 117 points.
Mehran Rezazadeh defeated Pak Un Gwang from North Korea, and snatched a gold medal for Iran in the final bout of the 57-kilogram weight category.
Mohammad Namjoomotlagh also stood on the bronze podium in the 61-kilogram class.
Hamed Rashidi lost to his Russian opponent Zaurbek Sidakov and clinched the silver medal in the 74-kilogram weight section.
Bahman Teimouri and Amir Mohammadi also added two silvers to Iran's tally at the sporting event in the 79-kilogram and 97-kilogram weight divisions respectively.
Additionally, Yadollah Mohebbi downed Nurzhan Omirbekov from Kazakhstan in the 125-kilogram weight category, and was awarded the gold medal.
The 33rd edition of the World Military Wrestling Championship kicked off in Moscow, Russia, on May 14, and will finish on May 20, 2018.
The tournament has reportedly brought together dozens of athletes from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, France, Georgia, Germany, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and South Korea.
