Iran Remain Unchanged in FIFA Rankings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran national football team maintained its spot at 33 in FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.
Carlos Queiroz’s team remained the top Asian football nation, followed by Australia at 37th, Japan at 55th and South Korea at 59th.
Germany continued its reign as the best team in the world rankings, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium.
Spain and Morocco are sixth and 42nd, respectively in the rankings.
Iran will open the 2018 World Cup with a match against Morocco on June 15 in Group B and play Spain and Portugal on June 20th and 25th.
FIFA calculates every country’s ranking based on match results (a win, a loss or a draw), importance (i.e. a friendly or a World Cup match), and strength of the nation’s opponent ranking-wise. These points are then accumulated from the country’s past results in the previous four years.
