Iranian Judoka Earns Silver at Tunis Grand Prix 2018

TEHRAN (Press TV ) - Iranian judoka Javad Mahjoub has managed to collect a silver medal at the Tunis Grand Prix 2018, thanks to the remarkable athletic skills he displayed the prestigious sporting event.
On Sunday, Mahjoub prevailed over a representative from Morocco in his first over 100-kilogram weight class contest.
He defeated Egyptian contestant Maisara El Naggar in the next bout, and progressed to the quarter-final round.
The Iranian judoka then downed Tamerlan Bashaev and booked his place in the semi-finals.
Mahjoub could overcome his strong Romanian opponent Vladut Simionnescu in the semi-final round, and advanced to the title challenge.
He, however, lost to Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gordiienko in the final, and finished as the vice champion.
The Tunis Grand Prix 2018 started in Tunisia on January 19, and finished on January 21.
The tournament brought together 335 male and female judokas from various world countries, including Belgium, the Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
