Defense Minister Gen. Hatami:

Iran to Continue Boosting Defense Power

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Iran’s new ballistic missile that was unveiled on Friday can be guided through the final moments of engagement with the target, Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Saturday.
Hatami described Khorramshahr a strategic missile, saying its remarkable operational range and unique features have made it very agile.
The missile can beat the enemy’s air defense systems and be guided from the launch to the moment of its impact, he added.
Khorramshahr, a long-range ballistic missile named after an Iranian southwestern city that bore the brunt of an Iraqi surprise attack in the 1980s, was put on display on a truck at the military parades held in southern Tehran on Friday morning.
The ballistic missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers with the ability to carry a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) weighing 1,800 kilograms.
According to Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the new missile can be equipped with multiple warheads.
Hatami said the Islamic Republic will seek permission from no country to bolster its defense power.
"As long as the rhetoric of some countries is one of threats, Iran’s reinforcement of its defense power will continue,” he said.
"Iran will not seek permission from any country to produce different missiles, and land, sea, and aerial defense weapons,” Hatami added.
During his speech at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump had accused the Islamic Republic of "building dangerous missiles.”
Iran says its military might, including the country’s missile capabilities, are for purely defensive purposes.
"I wish to underscore here that the defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including our missiles, are solely defensive deterrents for the maintenance of regional peace and stability and the prevention of adventurist tendencies of irrational aspirants,” President Hassan Rouhani told the General Assembly Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Hatami echoed those remarks in his comments by saying that Iran’s defense policy is deterrent.
"Our defensive plans, tactics, and techniques correspond with the kinds of threats we face and the country’s geopolitical situation,” he said.
The Iranian defense minister referred to Trump’s "discourteous remarks” at the UN and said such threatening language would impact Iran’s will in no way.
A senior military commander said Saturday Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to make the enemies regret any wrong move against the Islamic Republic.
"We are monitoring threats and boosting the defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army accordingly,” the second-in-command of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, said.
"We are fully ready to counter Daesh in Iraq, Syria or any other places,” he added.
He noted that the Iranian Army has successfully carried out different exercises and tactics and is in complete command of the situation, saying it is prepared to fulfill its duties.
Pourdastan emphasized that all enemies’ moves have been so far thwarted due to the active presence of Iran’s Navy and the acts of bravery of the Air and Ground Forces.
He said the Islamic Republic is currently capable of manufacturing weapons and displaying its might beyond the country’s territorial waters and even in the Indian Ocean.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
