Iran Pummel Czech Republic at FIVB U19 World Championship


TEHRAN (Dispatches) - The Iran men's national under-19 volleyball team has defeated the Czech Republic in straight sets in its last fixture at the preliminary round of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship in Bahrain.
On Tuesday, the Iranian side raced to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) win against the Czech team to claim the top spot in Pool D following a match at Isa City Sports Hall.
Iran’s Pouriya Yali charted a total of 17 points scored off purely on attacks, while Amir Hossein Toukteh contributed another 11 points.
Iranian volleyball player Porya Yali said, "This is the second time I have played in the World Championship. Two years ago, I was mostly staying on the bench, and now I can play on the court. I have great motivation to perform well each time. I am hungry for every win.”
The Iran men's national under-19 volleyball team is scheduled to take on Turkey in its next match on Thursday.
The 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship started in Bahrain on August 18, and will wrap up on August 27.
Iran was in Pool D with China, the Czech Republic, Italy and Mexico.
Pool A consisted of Bahrain, Egypt, Puerto Rico, Tunisia and the United States. Brazil, Cuba, France, Japan and Poland formed Pool B.
Argentina, Chile, South Korea, Russia and Turkey were pitted against each other in Pool C.
