Iranian Students Receive Medals in Rio Olympiad



KARAJ (IRNA) – Iranian high school students Amir Mojtaba Sabur, Taha Miranzadeh and Soroush Taslimi snatched gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad which was held in Rio, Brazil (IMO 2017), an official said.
The event was held on July 12-23 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The managing director of education department Khosro Saki told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

He went on to say that no European students stood among 5 tops.

Iranian students received two gold, three silver, and one bronze medals in the 58th
International Mathematical Olympiad.

After South Korea, Vietnam, China and US, Iran stood on the fifth place, he said.

Some 111 countries participated in IMO 2017, Saki said.

The history of the IMO goes back to 1959, when its first edition was held in Romania.

Since then, the competition has provided a stimulus for mathematics, offering a great
opportunity for the creative exchange of ideas and experiences among students from many different cultures.
