German Tourist Arrives in Mashad After Five Year Walkathon

MASHAD (IRNA) -- A German tourist arrived in Mashad after a five-year walkathon.
According to Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Khorasan Razavi, Thomas Heinrich Schmöckel who has a degree in economics and started his journey five years ago arrived in Mashad on Monday.
'I was captivated by the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza, and impressed with its glory because it’s like a looking glass, reflecting the internal beauties of human,' he added.
Schmöckel went on to say that he had been working in insurance for a long time, and started his journey when he was 50. 'I quitted my job and studied about peace, religions, mysticism and Islam to go to the Far East with the purpose of world peace.”
He also said that he has already walked through Syria, Turkey, Armenia, and Iran and will continue his journey through Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tibet and Myanmar.
Schmöckel also said he had walked 20,000 km in three years and stayed in Armenia for two years, adding that he has given priority to the Syrian war since it began.
He has passed through Tabriz, Moghan, Zanjan, Qazvin, Tehran, Damavand, Semnan, Sabzevar, and Neishabour.
