No More Arms for CIA-Backed Rebels in Syria?

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

The CIA says it is no longer considering to heavily arm "moderate” rebels fighting the Syrian government, which has been ongoing since the war began.
U.S. officials were hyping up the proposal during a recent meeting, which also included possible military action against Russia, but now say the idea was "neither approved nor rejected” and just left it in limbo.
It’s not an oversight, but rather a reflection of President Obama’s unwillingness to continue the regime-change program himself, and a desire to leave it as an option for the next administration next year. The CIA program has been pretty unsuccessful, and the new arms weren’t seen as a likely game changer at any rate.
Of course the current U.S. air war on Syria is here to stay. The misguided re-entry is no coincidence at all. The Pentagon attempt to spin clear combat as non-combat is not puzzling either. It shows the decision is in keeping with the U.S. policy goal of a "War on Terror” without end, even if the Empire of Chaos has to pay through the nose.
Not surprisingly, the Syrian government has made clear that it does not need U.S. to help defeat ISIL and other terrorist outfits. This does go against the main U.S. plan which is long-standing war, occupation, nefarious meddling and military adventurism. To stay the course, Washington has to keep the war at a permanent simmer and occasionally let it boil over instead of settling it.
Humiliated by the presence of Iranian and Russian forces in Syria, the Obama claque is even trying to come up with suspicious initiatives such as "national reconciliation talks” with the insurgent groups in order to get their vassals back into the business and guarantee their own permanent presence.
All things considered, when Russia began its military campaign against the extreme outfits, it was hoped that this would help the international civil society in pressing for the voice of reason. However, this has proved more hope than reality. This is due not only to the complex nature of the war, but also because of Washington’s self-interest approach plus the support the U.S. and allies continue to provide so-called "democratic” forces inside Syria - where the leadership and support-base for ISIL has a relationship,
The world is witnessing that Washington’s cynical militarism is a plague upon the Middle East where the military-industrial complex profits and innocent civilians die. As long as this insanity, this power-politics continues, America’s bogus "War on Terror” will not end, even if the regime changers stop rearming their goons for some time.
For now though, as the CIA officials put it, the "moderate” goons are "not doing any better on the battlefield, they’re up against a more formidable adversary, and they’re increasingly dominated by extremists.”
That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement, and it’s likely the lack of alternatives that has prevented it from being abandoned outright. Soon they will be, one way or another.
