President Rouhani:

Muslim Disunity Has Emboldened Zionists

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – President Hassan Rouhani said here on Wednesday lack of unity among Muslims has emboldened the occupying regime of Israel to continue its crimes against the Palestinians.
"If unity were preserved in the Islamic world, the usurper regime would not dare to commit so many crimes in an enclave (the Gaza Strip) for 17 days,” he said during a cabinet session.
The low level of solidarity among Muslim nations has given the Zionists an impetus to continue atrocities against the people of Gaza, Rouhani added, calling on Muslim countries to close ranks against the occupying Israel and defend the Palestinians.
Rouhani says Iran will support the Palestinian people and all oppressed nations with full might.
On Tuesday, the president said innocent Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are exposed to the brutalities of the racist Zionist regime.
"There are few wars in the world in which a small number of people with no or limited weaponry are under full siege and exposed to the barbarism of a racist group," hesaid in a meeting with Iranian athletes.
Unfortunately, Iran’s medical aid and teams are denied entry into the Gaza Strip, he added.
"We are ready to admit all the Palestinians injured in the blockaded Gaza Strip and treat them here,” Rouhani said.
The president said the occupying regime of Israel is striking the Gaza Strip with different weapons, tanks, artillery and missiles and is killing children, women and the elderly.
He expressed hope that Muslims and the Palestinians would achieve victory in their "unequal fight” against the Zionist regime, saying, "I have no doubt that aggressors will be defeated again and the oppressed people will achieve success.”
On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham called on the international community to take "swift collective” action to put an end to Israel’s relentless attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at her weekly press conference, Afkham said that the Zionist regime's crimes in Gaza violated the very basic principles of international law as well as human rights.
It is imperative that an immediate collective action be taken to prosecute Israeli officials and put them on trial in international courts, namely the International Criminal Court, she said.
"We urgently call on the UN to fulfill its responsibility” with regard to the war on Gaza, she added.
Afkham said that Iran has fully tapped into its potential to support the Palestinians, especially the people of Gaza.
The spokeswoman also said that Tehran backs any proposal of a truce between Palestinian resistance groups and Israel that would respect the viewpoints of the Palestinian nation.
Meanwhile, a rally was held outside the Egyptian interests section in Tehran to protest Cairo’s move to close the Rafah border crossing in Gaza.
The protesters expressed their solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and called on the Egyptian government to open the Rafah crossing to the Gaza Strip
They said Egypt’s decision to prevent the delivery of essential supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip amounted to connivance with the Israeli regime.
The demonstrators issued a statement, saying the Zionist regime is committing war crimes by killing the oppressed people in Gaza, including women and children.
Western powers, particularly the U.S., and international bodies are giving a green light to the Israeli regime to carry out such heinous and savage crimes, the statement read.
It expressed regret that Muslim and Arab countries are involved in political conflicts and trivial matters, and have so far adopted no effective measure to support the Palestinians.
At the UN, Iran's Deputy Ambassador Gholam-Hussein Dehqani said Israeli atrocities over the past six decades are the result of "leniency” with the regime.
He made the remarks in an address to a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The Iranian diplomat, who was speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), said that Israel’s attacks against Gazans are a clear example of the collective punishment of civilians and a blatant violation of international law.
Dehqan strongly condemned the occupying regime's slaughter of Palestinians and called on the international community to take immediate measures to send relief aid to the people in the besieged enclave.
Israeli crimes have gone unpunished due to the UN Security Council’s inaction to stop the regime’s brutalities, Dehqani said, urging the international body to live up to its commitments and take action to guarantee the implementation of international law.
He called on the UN Security Council to take swift action to stop Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip and help lift the blockade on the enclave.
