Unity: The Greatest Obligatory Duty in Islam

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned that enemies of Islam are sowing discord among Muslims.
Ayatollah Khamenei says some heads of Muslim states mistake enemies for friends, have an optical illusion, and cannot tell friend and foe apart.
In his words, obedience to the Holy Quran teachings, refusal to succumb to whatever modern ignorance wants to impose, and resistance against such impositions are the solution to the current crises facing the Islamic world.
In a sense, the greatest obligatory duty is to keep the bonds of Islamic brotherhood and unity intact, as it is the only way out of the current mess in the Middle East.
Regrettably, much of the region is under the hegemony of foreign powers, which make no secret of their animosity towards Islam. It’s all the reason why it is time to thrust aside all immaterial differences and bring into play the region’s strategic energy resources against the common enemy.
Moreover, and as maintained by Ayatollah Khamenei, all Muslims should stay vigilant against the corruptive incitements of foreign defeatists. They should learn the meaning, the contents, and the significance of brotherhood and unity commanded by God. They should also display zeal to act in accordance.
Divisions create hostility and contradict unity as commanded by God in the Quran (3:103): And hold fast, all together, by the rope which God (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves…
The Quran (8:73) also predicts that great mischief and disasters could come about if respect and unity amongst Muslims are not accomplished: And the unbelievers are allies of each other. Unless you do this (protect each other), there would be tumult and oppression on Earth, and great mischief…
Islam’s cornerstone is the unity of God and this tells us we should never divide humans into sections or sects. God says in His Book that division of people in different races and clans is only for their introduction.
Contrary to what is being propagated in the Western media, Islam condemns violence and is the greatest unifying force in the world. It is a religion that tolerates other religions; orders its followers to respect and protect all humans; believes in the unity of all humans; and preaches peace, justice and equality.
