UN Praises Iran's Efforts for Building Safe, Healthy Schools

TEHRAN (IRNA) - United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iran Gary Lewis hailed Iran's efforts for building safe and healthy schools.

During the past decade, Iran has repaired and constructed earthquake-resisting buildings, he added.
Speaking in an international conference on school safety, Lewis noted that Islamic Republic has experienced good progress in field of decreasing catastrophic events.
He urged Iran to transfer its experiences in field of earthquake-resistant buildings to other countries.
Earthquake-resistant structures are structures designed to withstand earthquakes. While no structure can be entirely immune to damage from earthquakes, the goal of earthquake-resistant construction is to erect structures that fare better during seismic activity than their conventional counterparts.
