Iran-U.S. Rapprochement in the Fantasy Land

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer Despite the nuclear deal, there will be no thawing in relations between Iran and the United States, and it’s official.
According to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the campaign against arrogance is one of the principles of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and it will go on come what may. As maintained by Ayatollah Khamenei:

1- Iranians don't trust Washington anymore today than they did before the deal.

2-The deal is just about Iran’s nuclear program. Repeat, the deal is just about Iran’s nuclear program. It is not about cooperation in regional issues. Iran has no intention to help the U.S. and its cronies destroy sovereign nations in the name of "democracy” and "fighting terror”.

3-The State Department has listed Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism every year since the 1979 Revolution. Since then, consecutive U.S. administrations have issued threats of war and sanctions under bogus claims, even pushing for regime change.

4-Tehran will never bow to excessive demands over its "defense and security" capabilities. No one will be allowed to harm the fundamental principles of the Islamic establishment either.

5-The text of the nuclear conclusion will never lead to a change in the Islamic Republic’s policies towards the "arrogant U.S. government”. Washington’s policies on regional issues are exactly on the opposite side to those pursued by Tehran.

6-The idea of resistance that Hamas, Ansarullah and Hezbollah movements embody is fundamental to Iranian official thinking. It does not sit easily with even a limited rapprochement with the U.S. and its creation the Zionist regime of Israel.

7-Iran has a constructive and positive role to play in the region, with or without an agreement. The region belongs to Iran and its neighbors, not foreign powers.

8-Tehran will continue to help Iraq and Syria fight foreign-backed terrorism. It is doing so under international law. Tehran will also continue to throw political support for the resistance movements in Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen.

9-Last but not the least, Iran doesn't welcome confrontation and doesn't seek war. But if it happens, it is the United States that will be cutting and running.

Considering the above and reading the tea leaves, the possibility of rapprochement is indeed weak. After all, the warmongers are still destabilizing the region, fueling sectarian violence, pushing for regime change - with a helping hand from terrorist groups, and creating humanitarian crises.

Under the circumstances, it is obvious that the United States has no intention to change its destructive foreign policy. It's also all the reason why Ayatollah Khamenei says a thawing in relations is pure fantasy.
