Iran Gains First, Second Place of West Asian Chess Championship

MUSCAT (IRNA) – Iranian chess grandmasters Pooya Ideni and Ehsan Qaemmaqami gained the first and second place respectively in the West Asian Chess Championship.

In the eighth and final round of west Asian Chess Championship which ended on Sunday, the Iranian grandmaster Pooya Ideni scored eight points out of nine play, and grandmaster Ehsan Qaemmaqami with 7.5 points stood the second.

A Qatari female ranked first in women category while Iranian female grandmaster Atousa pourkashian with eight points ranked second and another Iranian grandmaster Mitra Hajjarian with 7.5 points ranked third in the tournament.

West Asian Chess Championship kicked off in Muscat of Oman on May 17 and ended on Sunday.

The contests were in male and female categories and some 31 grandmasters from Iran, Qatar, Yemen, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Oman attended the regional tournament.
